Let’s talk….

focusing on the critical issues raised by residents during this campaign…

01 — potholes

  • It is loud and clear that the people of Newark, Tuxford, Bingham and Southwell are fed up with the plague of potholes. These persistent potholes are more than just a nuisance; they pose a serious risk to the safety of drivers, cyclists and pedestrians alike.

  • Damaged roads can lead to costly vehicle repairs, increased accidents, and general frustration for everyone who uses them.

  • Whilst the roads are the responsibility of the County Council, your MP should be holding them to account and pushing them for urgent repairs and resurfacing. It's unacceptable for our communities to continue suffering due to poorly maintained infrastructure.

  • I understand your concerns and share your frustration.

  • I'm here to take action for you. If elected as your next MP, I will actively engage with Nottinghamshire County Council to prioritise road repairs in our area.

  • I will explore all available funding options and push for increased investment in our local infrastructure to prevent future deterioration of our roads.

02 — river pollution

  • Severn Trent has been ordered to pay a fine of more than £2 million for the "reckless" pollution of the River Trent. This egregious act saw approximately 470 million litres of raw sewage discharged, with around 260 million litres illegally released, blatantly violating the conditions of the Environmental Permit. To put this into perspective, that’s the equivalent of over 10 Olympic-sized swimming pools filled with raw sewage.

  • The Environment Agency has rightly condemned Severn Trent's storm contingency plans as "woefully inadequate." This is not just a failure of a single company but a systemic issue that requires urgent and robust action.

  • The last Newark MP, Robert Jenrick, voted to block a law that would have forced water companies in the UK to properly clean up sewage before discharge. Additionally, the Tories failed to support a proposal to make all wet wipes biodegradable—a measure that water companies themselves were calling for to reduce blockages.

  • It is time for change!

  • It's time to elect an MP who takes this issue seriously. My environmental credentials and commitment to campaigning are well-known, and if elected, addressing water pollution would be a key focus. I will advocate for stricter enforcement of existing environmental regulations, the introduction of new, tougher regulations, and support enhanced compliance monitoring and enforcement actions against polluters 📜✅

  • You deserve an MP who prioritises your health and the environment. Vote Adrian Amer on 4th July.
