How my journey began

From the heart of Hucknall to the vibrant community of Newark, Adrian Amer's journey is one of dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the people and the environment. Raised in a working-class family, Adrian's roots are deep in the rich soil of Nottinghamshire. His grandfather was a proud coal miner in Hucknall, and his parents worked tirelessly to provide a stable home—his father in North Yorkshire and his mother as an NHS worker. With three brothers, a myriad of cousins, and an Aunt living between Nottingham and Sherwood Forest, family is the cornerstone of Adrian's life.

Adrian's early years were filled with the love and support of his family and community. He attended Annie Holgate Tech Grammar in Hucknall, a period he fondly recalls as one of the happiest in his life. It was here that he formed lifelong friendships with Maggie, Miriam, and Jill, who inspired his love for the beautiful Nottinghamshire countryside and the spirit of adventure. Whether it was climbing the apple tree in Hucknall Parish Churchyard or exploring the local landscapes, these experiences shaped his appreciation for nature and community.

Driven by a strong sense of purpose and defying the expectations set by his former teacher, Adrian pursued higher education with determination. He attended Brunel University to study Law, later qualifying as a Barrister at Gray’s Inn. His legal career has been marked by a profound commitment to justice, prosecuting and defending some of the most serious crimes. Adrian's expertise extends to criminal law, cybercrime and an emerging interest in environmental law, reflecting his diverse legal acumen and dedication to societal well-being.

Adrian's professional achievements are complemented by his active engagement with community organisations. As a member of the Newark Ramblers, the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, and the Woodland Trust, he champions the preservation of green spaces and the promotion of environmental sustainability. Adrian has also stood shoulder to shoulder with community groups to save local green spaces from development, including being one of the founders of the ‘Stop the Chop’ campaign which successfully saved four mature trees next to Newark’s library, which is now a mini urban oasis.

Throughout his career, Adrian has made significant contributions to the community. As an Independent District Councillor for Newark and Sherwood District Council for Castle Ward, he has opposed the closure of train ticket offices, advocated for improved healthcare services at Newark Hospital, supported victims of abuse, and promoted safer communities. His efforts to assist residents and business owners affected by floods and his work on the planning committee highlight his dedication to prioritising residents' needs and environmental protection.

Now, Adrian Amer stands as an Independent candidate for the Newark MP seat, ready to bring his experience, passion, and commitment to Westminster. He believes in efficient financial management for taxpayers, the importance of greenspaces for mental well-being, and the necessity of protecting our environment for future generations. Adrian’s campaign is dedicated to creating a safer, healthier and more vibrant community for all.
